Bianucci named SAL Player of the Week

HICKORY, N.C. - The South Atlantic League announced on Monday that RF Mike Bianucci was named the SAL Player of the Week for the week of April 8 - 19.

Bianucci, 22, hit .394 (13-33) with three home runs, 13 RBI, and seven runs scored to help lead the Crawdads to a 6-4 record through the first week and a half of the 2009 season. He set a Crawdads record with six hits in Friday's 16-6 win in Asheville, going a perfect 6-for-6 with two home runs (one grand slam), seven RBIs, three runs, a double, three singles and a stolen base. On the season, he has three stolen bases and three doubles, and has a slugging percentage of .727 and an on-base percentage of .447. Bianucci currently leads the South Atlantic League in RBIs and is tied with teammate C Doug Hogan for the league lead in home runs. He also leads the team and is eighth in the league in batting average.

The native of Fairfax, Virginia is in his first full season of professional baseball, after being selected in the eighth round of the 2008 June draft by the Texas Rangers out of Auburn University. In 31 games with the Spokane Indians (Northwest League) last season, Bianucci batted .316 with four homers, 21 RBI, and 11 doubles to start his pro career. He also swiped seven bases and scored 15 runs, while posting a .387 on-base percentage in 2008.

After the Crawdads doubleheader tonight in Asheville, starting at 5:35 p.m. on The Big Dawg 92.1 FM and Hickorycrawdads.com, the Crawdads are back at home for a six-game homestand.
